The Tara Lagoon Parklands offers a good low-cost camping option on the outskirts of the town of Tara, located in the Darling Downs region of Queensland.

Please note: Tara Lagoon Parklands is currently undergoing some renovations, due to be completed in October 2021.

There are a limited number of powered sites available, but for unpowered camping, Tara Lagoon offers a large level campground with toilets, hot showers, potable water and a dump point. Council staff come around the campground in the afternoon to collect camping fees.

This Tara camping area also offers picnic tables, BBQs and 2kms of walking tracks around the lagoon to explore, plus it’s a great place to drop a line if you like fishing! Tara is also the start of the Sunset Way Tourist Drive, an approximately 150km road trip from Tara to Surat, passing through the tiny country towns of Meandarra and Glenmorgan.
